I have over 20 years of entrepreneurial experience and my expertise and skills are in start up companies.
Having started 11 businesses over the last 20 years, I am passionate about entrepreneurialism and have learned a thing or two about what it really takes to get a business off the ground. I have a combined range of experience in start ups including both successes and failures and am best known for Shoots, a boutique chain of garden centres that I built and sold in 2011.
Why do I do what I do?
I believe people should share their experiences, particularly if you can help people to achieve their dreams. I love helping people and seeing my expertise manifest into their reality. I have always believed that “what you don’t know, you don’t know”. Starting a business can be one of the biggest decisions a person can make in their life. What many people believe is that starting a company is complicated and difficult, yet I find it straight-forward and easy; I want people to know that the grass can be greener on the other side.
What do you do?
I work with entrepreneurs and wannabe entrepreneurs to really get under the skin of their ideas. I simplify the tornado of thoughts that is created through the enthusiasm of entrepreneurs and build a framework and path to starting a business successfully. When an idea becomes more than just an idea, I put in place the steps that are needed from planning, to funding through to growth and hopefully an exit.
I am passionate, driven, pushy and opinionated. I am not afraid to ask awkward or uncomfortable questions, but I am focused on the results you want. I directly use my experiences to help these become your experiences. If you are successful, then I will be successful
What have you done?
I began my career in technology Sales and Marketing in the 80’s and founded my first marketing agency in the early 90’s and then followed a opportunistic start up career in marketing, dotcoms, telecoms & technology and in 2005, founded Shoots Garden Centres, which I sold to a major group (Squires) in 2011.
Why do I care?
My skills and expertise centres around the formative stages in the lifecycle of a company and it is here that I have recognised that I have built a wealth of knowledge and experience. My passion for what I get involved in infectious and having founded, funded, built, bought and sold many ventures over the years, I empathise with the pains and joy of running your own business. Whether it is success or failure, I simply want to share my experiences with you and help you on the road to success.

I am the only Piers Mummery in the world!! I have clarity, focus, passion and experience. The combined value of this is unique. Because I have been where many entrepreneurs are, I can bring new skills and an unbiased view to a business and its’ plans. Because I have failed and succeeded, I can help entrepreneurs navigate through the start up minefield and fast track the building of a business.
What would you do for me?
Having created 11 businesses in 20 years, I can fast track a start up and provide the clarity, planning, connections and resources to get the business going. Having started companies, raised funding, built businesses and sold businesses, I will help avoid making the foundation mistakes that many entrepreneurs make in their start ups. I have bottled my thinking into a clear set of products and services, that focus on delivering my expertise to start ups.
Can you save me money or make me money
I can and will do both. An entrepreneurs idea is just that; an idea. My challenge is to help to turn the vision onto a profitable trading business. I will help entrepreneurs to avoid being a “busy fool” as well as helping to avoid the many trap doors that can be encountered along the way. I focus talents and skills on profitable productivity that turns ideas into money in the bank.
What have you done so far?
Not every idea is a good one. A recent client, had created a sales channel for a new lighting technology product. They wanted to raise funding for the business, but without any real asset in the company this was going to prove to be very difficult and in the long term, exposed a weakness by being reliant on a single point of failure, as they did not own the product. A review of their ideas and plans, has now involved the intellectual property rights being incorporated into the new company, where they now own the technology.
Over the last year, I helped to re-start a company, that had struggled for years, but had the essence of a great proposition. We worked through a product repositioning, refinancing and restructuring programme, that is now fully funded, live and gaining significant momentum.
